Cutting and Installing Laminate Flooring Around Doors
Here are a couple of tips for cutting and installing laminate and hardwood flooring around doors. The best way to finish off your floor is to cut your door jambs away so that the flooring goes under the door frame. You can do this with a hand saw and a piece of the flooring as a thickness guide. Use a piece of cloth or underlayment to protect the floor. Simply lay the saw at the base of the door frame and cut away to jut above the height of the flooring. Use a utility knife or small tool to pull away the excess. Your flooring should now slide under the door frame.
Those that are adept at using power tools will find this method of cutting around doors a little tedious. You can rent a jamb saw and set it to the thickness of the planks and then cut away the door jamb. This tool is almost like a circular saw that is set on its side. The job will be completed in half the time and you will probably feel a lot less stressed.
Some people are tempted to cut corners (pun intended) and simply run the planks up to the door frame. Don’t do it. You want your floor to look like it was done by a professional don’t you? You know there is bound to be someone who will ask why you skipped that step.
