Hardwood Floor Care

Gone are the days when you needed an electric floor polisher and the strength of two men to control it from dragging you across the living room.  Regular maintenance for hardwood floor care can be as simple as vacuuming and dry mopping.  Here are the basics to keeping your floor looking as good as when it was installed.  Vacuum regularly to remove grit from shoes as grit can scratch the finish over time.  Make sure that you do not use the beater bar on your vacuum as it may damage the floor.  For everyday hardwood floor care, use a dry mop or magnetic broom.  A quick swish around the room can be done in minutes and will pay off in the long run.

One of the most important things to remember in caring for your hardwood floors is to mop up any spills or water quickly.  Water and wood don’t mix and you don’t want to risk warping the wood. Most spills will wipe up with a barely damp cloth, but a commercial cleaner made for hardwood floors can also be used sparingly.

Our last tip for caring for your hardwood floors is to put felt pads under the legs of your furniture.  These will help prevent denting and scratching.  With just a bit of effort your hardwood floors will stay as beautiful as the day they were installed.
